five things every day.
I need four things every morning to start my day off in a way that feels organized and efficient. I need these things in order to have perspective on all the things on my list and to help me stay focused.
Once my girls are off to school I get started while Emmett is at early morning youth scripture study…
This is how my mornings roll…
1. Eat breakfast.
I can’t function well with out it. A bowl of cereal, some milk. Eggs and fruit. I keep is simple. Pretty much the same thing everyday.
2. I read scripture or something inspiring.
Reading something everyone morning gives me a vision for my life and the way I fit into the world and people around me. I need it to keep me from losing sight of what actually matters to me. It gives me thoughts, ideas that I need. Connections that I’ve not seen before.
3. Morning pages.
If you’ve read Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way” book you already know about this little three page excursion everyday. It’s one of my favorite things to do in a day. I write a free flow of thoughts. They come rushing out down my arm, through my pen, and melt onto paper for me to see. I need the chance to empty my thoughts out onto a clean white bit of paper for 10-15 minutes. It clears my mind in a way that gets me ready for the day.
4. Exercise.
Who doesn’t need some fresh air. Something new to look at? I know that I need something to get my happy endorphins going so that my day starts off on a sunny note. Exercise gives me a chance to breathe deeply and feel like I can accomplish things that sometimes feel less possible when I’m sitting in front of computer.
5. Shower.
This is so important. Getting dressed for the day signals to my brain that I’m serious. Messing around on Facebook is out since I changed out of what I went to bed wearing. I feel official. I know that some people like their stay at home job because they get to be in their pjs whenever they want. That thinking does have a downside though for me. I find that I’m much less productive when I spend too much time in my pajamas. My not-very-scientific-study revealed that I need to get dressed in clothes other than yoga pants in order to be a contributing member of my business.
These five things come together; once I get started working everything feels clearer…business (and life) feel doable. I’m taking the chance to tap into inspiration. What flows from that follows me into my morning pages. And now I’m listening and taking notes through morning pages.
I believe women already know what is most important to them, their family, their business. Sometimes were just go to fast, we stay too busy, we don’t slow down long enough to hear the wisdom we already own because of who are.
I need that kind of wisdom…
everyday.
Tell me about your schedule. What do you do to draw wisdom and strength, vision and clarity, into your everyday?

Love the list, Davina! Of course I already incorporate some of these things, but I definitely need to add the others (exercise, anyone?). I feel the same way about taking a shower and getting ready early – the days I do it, I’m much more productive and happier to boot.
Amen, sister!!
Davina, you are so right!! I need more time though 🙂 And you to come poke me with something sharp until I get out of bed.
I say sleep in if you can! 🙂 haha!!
I have to be up to get my kids off to school but if I didn’t have to do that…I’d have a little later wake up time.
Even if you don’t get up early, though, you can still establish a little routine that will fill you up before you start your day. These are words of wisdom from my mom that’s she’s told me since I was young. “Get yourself ready before you charge into your day. It will make a difference.”
