What is familyness?
It’s about ordinary life. The moments in between. The runny noses. The neck kisses. The shared glances and code words. The way you fight over who gets to ride shotgun. The way you sit together at the dinner table.
The fact is, your family is the greatest adventure you’ll ever have. And you don’t need a special occasion to celebrate that. You’re already living it!
I believe familyness should get a little more love, don’t you? In our communities. In our lives. In your home.
Something wonderful is already here. Celebrate it. Embrace it. And take it out for adventures.
Go ahead. I dare you!
Why A Year at the Yellow House?
Familyness and celebrating familyness is something that ebbs and flows with the seasons. Sometimes it’s easier (who doesn’t love a spur of the moment backyard BBQ) – easy as a sweet summer afternoon. And sometimes it’s a little harder (because weekends during the school year with kids in activities + homework + errands can be a nightmare!) – as challenging as a being housebound during a cold winter. But with each season comes the good, the bad, the wonder and the unknown.
The key is to take a deep breath and pause, just for moment, in all the seasons of familyness. In all the seasons of the year. Because life – real life – is happening in the in between.
So this isn’t really about one particular year. It’s not even just about a yellow house (even though I do live in a yellow house). It’s about the journey through life that we all take, and how we are living it, celebrating it, documenting it, recording it… for ourselves and our kids and our communities.
I love the idea of adventures. How can I sign up for one?
Waffles, jumping off cliffs, treks into the wild, hiking to the park down at the corner, building tents in the front room. No adventure is too big or too small to remember. Sign up for your own adventure and have me along to photograph it.
If you would like more adventures everyday in your own home make sure to sign up for the Love 15 project.
How do I book a session?

*your email will navigate the virtual windy waves and dock safely in Jessica’s inbox.

*I’ll give you a call to schedule your photo shoot that will be based on your answers to our questionnaire (scroll down for the good stuff on that).
*we will have your ‘completely-you’ photo shoot (and after the shoot you’ll get to see a sneak peek of ways to display your images)
What happens after the session is over?
I can’t wait to see you again…that’s what!!
*about one month after your session you’ll receive a call to schedule your ordering appointment and plan the launch of your online gallery
*you’ll receive an email with your gallery link. Woohoo!!
*your gallery will be online for 7 days (during this 7 days is when we have your ordering appointment)
I think I’m going to love ALL of my pictures. How will I know what to pick?
Enter: The Ordering Appointment.
The ordering appointment is one of my favorite parts of our experience. I have had my own family pictures made, gotten them on a cd, and then put them safely in a drawer, fully intending to put them on my wall, and then not getting around to it.
I don’t want this to happen to you.
The place for your memories is on your walls and in books for you to be reminded, not only of the wonderful times you’ve had together but also, of your love for each other.
During the ordering appointment I get to help you determine how you most want to display and enjoy your photographs. It’s fun as we explore your home and decide on your favorite expressions, moments, and images that you never want to forget.
And sometimes I even bring treats to keep our creative juices flowing while we sit on your comfy couch or at your kitchen table.
How long does this whole process take?
After your ordering appointment you can go exploring, have adventures, whatever your heart desires…while you’re out there, we will prep your photographs to be visit our printers, take a journey to be made into a handcrafted book, etc. Once approvals are completed we will send your custom designed off on a journey to be created into a beautiful handcrafted book.
From the time of your session until you receive your prints or album can take 2-4 months. I guarantee that we make the experience fun. We believe in adventures and surprises along the way…
How far in advance do I need to book a session?

Once fall arrives it can be even longer.

What if I want my pictures in time for the Holidays?
Make sure to get on our calendar right away. You don’t want to miss this!

How much does this cost?
Adventures are so fun and exciting…and they move so fast!
l feel like I need to insert the VISA commercial here for how priceless it is to capture your family in this moment with that funny smile and lost tooth, when they are exactly this age, while she is still loving her Polly Pockets, since he is going to outgrow his little tractor, because this is their last year at home before going to college.
There’s always a priceless adventure happening.
And it can pass…and hopefully you’ll remember how he looked, her silly little mannerism, that funny face they make…Or you can grab that fleeting little firefly of a moment and keep it in your hand forever.
I hear you have a questionnaire. When will I get that? How will I fill it out?
Thanks for asking!
This is one of the most creative parts of your experience for us, you + me. It’s our creative opportunity to craft a session that is all about you. I can’t do it with out you! My style is very collaborative. I send out a questionnaire to you that you can fill out online.
The more you tell me about your family the more creative we can get.
Depending on what you tell me I may ask you to pretend that when I arrive it is Saturday morning (even though in reality it’s Thursday at 3:30pm) You will be in your pjs, making waffles, and I will have just happened to stop by to photograph your waffle and whipped cream morning.
Every family is different. And that is the super awesome adventure part of this whole thing.
I’ve been on all kinds of adventures…hanging out at home…lounging in the backyard…going to salsa dancing lessons…on the family boat out to an island in the middle of a lake…napping in a field…amusement parks…reading books in her favorite fort.
Whatever, wherever you LOVE…that’s what we’re doing.
What should I wear?
Just figuring out the answer to this question is it’s own adventure, isn’t it!?
I think this may be the question that moms worry about most. The most important thing you want to remember is to be comfortable, be you. Not some crazy-stuffy-not-you-version of you.
That said, I will send you a clothing information guide that says things like: try to stay away from all white clothing/blouses, bold patterns can be distracting, matching outfits show no personality, tube tops are usually unflattering, try not to wear printed t-shirts/shirts that advertise for companies/beer/etc. and/or mini skirts.
Mostly, I want you to be yourself. Wear what you love.
What happens at a session?
I arrive at your home, we chat a little, I walk around a little.
I meet your family. Then I go back out to my car and get my equipment.
From then on we play. We have fun.
Parents don’t have to worry about discipline or making sure the kids behave. We are just going to go with the flow.
Laugh, enjoy. Adventure. Be a little crazy. Have some moments. And just feel the love. For about 2 hours we’re going to have fun, be relaxed and you’re going to love on each other.
No worries, no interruptions. Just you…and me. (except you’ll be having such a good time you might forget I’m even taking pictures)
Ready? Set? Book here.
